The Next Adele? : Emeli Sande', Three Days Grace, Pistol Annies,Green Day

"MY KIND OF LOVE"  EMELI SANDE'

The "next Beyonce"?   The "next Adele"?    Emeli Sande released her debut CD in England and it shot straight to #1.   Internationally, she is one of the biggest selling artists of 2012.  She writes and composes all of her music and doesn't use her image or sexuality to sell it, just her incredible vocal skills. Here in the States she's still a relative unknown.   Check out her slow jam, "My Kind Of Love" and you feel the emotional impact of Adele's Someone Like You especially with the cancer theme of the video.  "Next To Me" reminds me of Adele's Rolling In The Deep.  She'll be performing on Jay Leno Wednesday night. Mark my words, Emeli Sande' will be nominated for a lot of Grammy Awards in 2013!

"TAKIN' PILLS"   PISTOL ANNIES

Traditional country music twang is alive and well with Miranda Lambert leading the way.  Coming off their smash debut single, "Hell On Heels", the trio is back with another sly come-on, "Takin' Pills".   Give the song more than one listen and you're hooked!   Besides Miranda, Ashley Monroe ("I Don't Want To") and Angeleena Presley make up the all-girl country band.   You've got to respect that they wrote every song on the CD, play guitar, and  challenge country music with their mix of classic country with a splash of sexy attitude.

"CHALK OUTLINE"   THREE DAYS GRACE

"Transit Of Venus" will be released on October 2nd, marking the 4th CD for the Canadian modern rock band, Three Days Grace.    Basing the album off of "Chalk Outline", we can expect another album of aggressive hard rock riffs, radio friendly hooks, and hopefully a tour to support the CD.  The band promises they took some chances and got experimental this time around.   "Transit Of Venus" refers to a once in a lifetime experience when Venus and the moon align in a certain way.

Green Day Is Back! New Alica Keys, Jack White, Tamia

Get ready for Green Day, they're coming back with THREE new CDs in the next few months.   Uno!, Dos!, Tre!  (The drummer's name is Tre Cool so they got a little creative with their Spanglish) will be released every two months with each CD taking a different musical theme.   Uno! is power pop, Billie Joe said it's somewhere between AC/DC and early Beatles.   Dos! will feature garage rock, turn up the amps, and wake your neighbors.   Tre! is described as Epic.   Armstrong told Rolling Stone, "With the first album you're getting in the mood to party. On the second one, you're at the party. And the third album you're cleaning up the mess." LINK 

"NEW DAY"   ALICIA KEYS 

A lot has happened with Alicia since her last CD, she married Swiss Beatz and had her first baby.  Alicia said, "Everything is new, I'm a new person now.  What that's done for me in just giving me a real stability, real connection, grounding, reason, and purpose.  That empowerment and freedom is definitely something that's reflected in the new album." Love the first single, "New Day" with the emotional vocals driven by her husband's bass heavy hip hop beats.

"FREEDOM AT 21"   JACK WHITE

Guitar Hero, Jack White, gets Hall Of Fame video producer, Hype Williams, to direct his big budget extravaganza.   The guitar solo during the last 60 seconds is the highlight of the record.  "Blubberbuss", Jack's solo CD, hasn't sold up to White Stripes-like expectations but one of the better rock CDs released this year.  Recently, Jack filmed a documentary, "It Might Get Loud" with guitar legends, Jimmy Page and The Edge.  They discussed their craft, influences, and jammed together.  Any guy watching "Freedom At 21" will love the hottest female motorcycle cop ever and a prison full of voluptuous women.   Look for cameos by Frances Bean Cobain and at the end by Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age.  

"BEAUTIFUL SURPRISE"    TAMIA

Ironic that the song's title and my reaction is identical.  Tamia is back with a new single!   "Beautiful Surprise" is the title track from her new CD set to drop on Aug. 28, 2012.   I first heard her angelic voice on Quincy Jones' Jook Joint CD with "You Put A Move On My Heart".   Tamia looks gorgeous in this brand new breezy video.  Incidentally, that's her longtime husband, NBA's Grant Hill, who she's kissing at the end of the video.   I liked this video so much, I had to watch it back-to-back :)  

RHCP Guitar Carousel: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, and There For Tomorrow

"DON'T FORGET ME"  RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS

Spinal Tap had the never ending drummer replacement theme, well, the Chili Peppers prove life imitates art when it comes to their lead guitarists.  First Hillel Slovak (heroin OD in 1988), P-Funk's Dwayne McKnight (temp), John Frusciante (their 5 big CDs), Arik Marshall (tour replacement), Dave Navarro (from Jane's Addiction), back to Frusciante after rehab, now Josh Klinghoffer for their new CD.   Frusciante was the best of the bunch, watch after the 5 minute intro the blistering, amazing solo by John.

"BRAIN STEW/JADED"  GREEN DAY

Green Day has been criticized for being too pop for punk, not hardcore, and commercial.   I'd argue that they introduced a lot of people to a new genre who later learned about bands like Black Flag, Bad Brains, Henry Rollins, Bad Religion, and so many more punk bands that never received commercial acclaim.   Brain Stew/Jaded is from 1995's Insomniac CD and the two songs became a medley in concerts.

My favorite song by Orlando's pop punk band, There For Tomorrow.    Like most bands of the genre, the Vans Warped Tour has been critical to their success.   TFT has been on three Warped Tours.  "Remember When" has a great lyric:  "The door was always open but not enough to let me in.  My eyes are wide awake and I can see you clearly, but you don't stand out a bit. "
